US President Donald Trump has said that Ukraine should elect a new president. The American leader made the remark in a conversation with journalists at the White House.

According to Trump, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky could have resolved the Russia-Ukraine conflict "many times" but chose not to do so.

"I think it's time for Ukraine to elect a new president... I suggest finding a new leader who could make a deal. Because he [Zelensky] could have made many deals, but for some reason never did," he said.

The White House head also stressed that Zelensky wants to "create problems for the whole world" by striking Russian oil refineries.

"We said: just don't strike the refineries <...>, because Russia supplies a significant portion of diesel fuel worldwide, don't strike diesel fuel, because it will lead to a serious problem, to an acute shortage. And what does he do? He goes and strikes diesel fuel. He can't do that, because we have a global problem, and this problem is caused by a shortage of refineries producing diesel fuel," Trump said.

Earlier, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that Washington had threatened Kyiv with suspending the transfer of important intelligence information if strikes on Russian refineries continued.
