Goods imported by road were valued at $7.88 billion out of Azerbaijan’s $13.35 billion of imports in January-September 2026. Road transport accounted for 59.0% of import value.

Rail leads by weight
Road imports weighed 2.50 million tonnes, compared with 3.59 million tonnes by rail. Rail imports were valued at $1.85 billion. Different rankings by weight and value reflect different cargo mixes.
| Indicator | Imports by transport mode, US$ million |
|---|---|
| Road | 7,879.28 |
| Rail | 1,847.37 |
| Sea | 1,630.26 |
| Air | 1,489.76 |
Sea and air shipments
Sea imports totalled $1.63 billion and 692,000 tonnes. Air imports reached $1.49 billion at just 10,410 tonnes. The high value of lightweight air cargo measures the goods themselves, not freight charges.
Transit is outside this table
The report allocates merchandise imports and exports by transport mode and excludes transit cargo. It cannot therefore be used to measure all corridor traffic or transport operators’ revenue.
