Azerbaijan’s exports of cotton fibre and yarn totalled $188.38 million in January-September 2026. Fibre generated the larger share at $152.14 million, compared with $36.25 million for yarn.

Different unit values
Fibre shipments reached 106,800 tonnes and yarn shipments 15,890 tonnes. Average statistical values were about $1,424 per tonne for fibre and $2,280 for yarn, calculated by dividing export values by shipment weight.
| Indicator | Exports, US$ million |
|---|---|
| Cotton fibre | 152.14 |
| Cotton yarn | 36.25 |
Unit values are not value added
A higher value per tonne of yarn does not translate directly into additional profit. Processing requires raw materials, energy, labour and equipment, while product quality and mix differ. The customs table does not capture these costs.
Where export earnings are concentrated
Fibre accounts for approximately 81% of the value of these two categories. This offers a starting point for examining processing depth, but assessing industry efficiency also requires factory utilisation, costs and domestic sales data.
