Management of Azerbaijan's single treasury account balance generated AZN 46.8 million in interest income for the state budget in January-September 2026. The amount appears in the treasury section of the Ministry of Finance nine-month report.

A separate October 30 announcement describes subsequent operations. Five deposit auctions held during October placed AZN 704 million with commercial banks for terms of 28 and 56 days, at an average annual interest rate of 6.5%.

Dividing the income by the placement volume would not produce a valid return. Income covers the first nine months, while the placements relate to the following month. Transaction volume also differs from the average balance invested over a period.

How the mechanism works

Placing temporarily available public funds allows the treasury to earn interest before the money is needed for budget payments. The commercial bank receives funding for the deposit term and must return it on the agreed conditions. The timing of that repayment therefore matters alongside the interest rate.

The 6.5% rate is annual. It does not mean a return of 6.5% on principal over 28 or 56 days. Calculating income from a particular placement requires its amount, term, rate and interest-accrual convention.

Limits of the disclosure

The October release does not name recipient banks or allocate the AZN 704 million by maturity and individual auction. It therefore cannot support a ranking of banks by treasury funding received or an exact calculation of future budget income. The verified January-September result should be assessed separately from subsequent placements.
