London Gateway suspended acceptance of empty containers from noon on October 23 until further notice, according to a Maersk operational advisory.
Hauliers are asked to check MATS Online return instructions before dispatch. Alternative locations should be used only when directed, with availability subject to weather and space.
The distinction is important: the notice concerns empty containers. It does not announce a complete port closure or the suspension of all laden-container operations.
For logistics operators, the practical risk is an unnecessary truck journey or unplanned waiting. Current instructions for the specific container matter more than a generic list of fallback depots. Sending a vehicle to an alternative site without confirmation would therefore be premature.
