Georgia plans to allocate 890 million lari ($341,917 million) to the development of railway infrastructure within the Middle Corridor over four years, from 2027 to 2030.
The figures are contained in the draft state budget for 2027 prepared by the country's Ministry of Finance.
According to the document, 250 million lari is planned for the project in each of 2027 and 2028, 160 million lari in 2029, and 230 million lari in 2030.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. Its goal is to improve the efficiency of the country's railway network within the Middle Corridor (the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, TITR), strengthen its resilience to climate change and its financial sustainability.
In addition, Georgian Railway is to acquire 45 new mainline DC freight electric locomotives and 10 modern electric multiple units (EMUs). The construction of a new electrical substation is also envisaged.
