Kazakhstan plans to increase the total cargo handling capacity of its seaports from 21.8 million to 30 million tons by 2030. This was reported by the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.
Over the past five years, the volume of transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, Middle Corridor) has grown 5.6 times, from 800,000 to 4.5 million tons.
"Currently, the development of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk continues. Construction of new terminals, dredging works, reconstruction of berths, and expansion of the maritime fleet are underway. By 2029, Kazakhstan plans to acquire eight more vessels, including dry cargo ships and container carriers," the government notes.
Infrastructure modernization is expected to increase the capacity of the TITR from 6 million to 10 million tons per year.
"At the same time, the country is expanding its railway infrastructure. Over the past five years, about 5,000 km of tracks have been built and modernized, and the volume of transit traffic has reached 33 million tons. In the next three years, construction and renovation of another 2,200 km of railways is planned," the statement emphasizes.
