Annual inflation in Russia reached 6.33% in August, up from 5.98% in July, according to Rosstat data. Consumer prices declined by 0.08% over the month.
Food products became 0.26% cheaper, with fruit and vegetable prices falling 5.72%. The sharpest declines were in white cabbage (down 18.8%), potatoes (down 17.9%) and carrots (down 14.6%). Oranges rose 8.1%, cucumbers 3.4%, sugar 5.7%, buckwheat 5.1% and meat 2.2%.
From January to August 2026, prices increased by 4.67%. In the same period last year, the figure was 3.94%. Since the start of the year, petrol has seen the largest price increase (up 24.64%), with a monthly rise of 0.76%.
The central bank forecasts inflation at 6–7% by the end of the year. In 2027, the regulator expects it to slow to 4% and remain at that level thereafter. At its meeting on 11 September, the Bank of Russia kept the key rate at 14% per annum and noted rising pro-inflationary risks.
