Russia's natural gas production in July 2026 amounted to 47.8 billion cubic meters, up 1% from 47.262 billion cubic meters in the same month last year, according to Rosstat.
This figure comprises the agency's data on natural gas output at 39.6 billion cubic meters (up 2% from July 2025) and associated petroleum gas at 8.2 billion cubic meters (down 2%).
Since the start of 2026, production has reached 396.7 billion cubic meters, up 4% (or 13.8 billion cubic meters) from 382.9 billion cubic meters in the same period last year.
Production statistics do not provide a full picture of the country's balance, as reserves from underground storage are actively used in winter. The need to replenish storage facilities creates additional demand in the summer.
Output of gas-intensive products such as ammonia (a key component in nitrogen fertilizer production) rose 3.8% in July.
Meanwhile, inter-fuel competition in the power sector during the summer months is not favoring thermal power plants, the largest gas consumers. In July, thermal power generation fell 12.8% while hydroelectric generation rose 18.2%; in June, thermal plants reduced output by 7% and hydro plants increased by 10.3%.
