Italy accounts for almost a quarter of trade
Trade with Italy reached $9.19 billion, or 24.69% of Azerbaijan's total. Azerbaijani exports dominated the relationship at $8.79 billion, against imports of $398.96 million. Italy also ranked first as an export destination, taking 36.83% of Azerbaijan's merchandise exports.
Türkiye ranked second by total trade at $4.33 billion. Flows were more balanced: Azerbaijan exported $2.56 billion and imported $1.77 billion. The United Kingdom ranked third at $3.72 billion, of which $3.48 billion was Azerbaijani exports.

China leads among suppliers
China's fourth place in overall trade conceals a substantial imbalance between the two flows. Azerbaijan imported $3.38 billion in Chinese goods and exported $83.71 million to China. Imports were about 40 times exports.
China was the largest source of imports, with a 25.29% share, followed by Russia at 13.24% and Türkiye at 13.23%. Russia ranked fifth in overall trade at $2.68 billion.
What the ranking shows
Among the ten largest partners, Azerbaijan recorded merchandise trade surpluses with Italy, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, Czechia, Georgia and Romania. Imports exceeded exports in trade with China, Russia, Germany and the United States.
Total trade measures the scale of the relationship but does not reveal its product mix. A high rank does not necessarily mean that shipments span a wide range of industries. That requires a separate commodity breakdown.
The customs report assigns imports by country of origin and exports by country of destination. The ranking covers goods, excluding services and investment.
