The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a medium-term financing agreement with leasing company Yapı Kredi Leasing for $50 million.
According to ADB, the agreement expands financing for projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green industry in Turkey. This is the bank's first deal with a financial leasing company in Turkey. The financing aims to support Yapı Kredi Leasing's sustainable leasing operations—one of the country's largest leasing companies.
The funds will be used to finance projects within the sustainable leasing portfolio, including solar photovoltaic, wind, and geothermal energy, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, as well as energy-efficient industrial equipment, particularly in the textile sector.
About 15 percent of the loan proceeds will be directed to so-called "blue" leasing projects, including biodegradable plastic packaging production, fishing industry equipment, plastic recycling facilities, and wastewater treatment plants.
"ADB's first transaction in Turkey's financial leasing sector, which plays an important role in financing productive investments and developing the country's economy, is a significant step," said ADB Director General for Central and West Asia, Lia Gutierrez.
She noted that cooperation with the government and the private sector through Yapı Kredi Leasing will contribute to investments in energy production and consumption, while supporting Turkey's efforts to enhance economic and environmental sustainability.
Fatih Torun, General Manager of Yapı Kredi Leasing, said the partnership with ADB will expand Turkish companies' access to leasing solutions and enable them to invest in technologies aimed at improving competitiveness, resource efficiency, and sustainable development.
The project aligns with ADB's Country Partnership Strategy for Turkey 2025–2027, as well as Turkey's Green Deal Action Plan and medium-term economic programs.
