Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. leader Donald Trump held a telephone conversation during which they discussed the situation around Ukraine and the outcomes of visits by U.S. representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv.
This was reported by Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader. According to him, the talks, which lasted an hour, were constructive and frank, but confidential in nature.
"The leaders exchanged views on the trips of Kushner and Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv that took place on September 5 and 6," Ushakov noted. He said that the results of the American representatives' trip were assessed positively in the Kremlin, and contacts along this line will be continued.
One of the main topics of the conversation was the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Trump emphasized the need for its speedy conclusion, which could open the prospect for full normalization of relations between Russia and the United States.
According to Ushakov, the American president is interested in achieving a breakthrough during his presidential term. Putin, in turn, supported the mood for developing partnership between Moscow and Washington, positively assessing Trump's efforts to find ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
