The EU Council has announced sanctions against 77 individuals for their participation in Russia's State Duma elections in September 2026 in territories of Ukraine under Russian occupation.
According to FinFly, citing the EU Council, the list includes 74 candidates who ran in the so-called DNR and LNR, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea and Sevastopol.
Three others are members of the Russian Central Election Commission, whom the EU accuses of organizing these elections.
The European Union assesses that participation in the elections contributed to attempts to legitimize Russian aggression against Ukraine and to maintain the illegal occupation of its territories.
Those added to the list are banned from entering the EU and transiting through its territory. Their assets in the European Union are subject to freezing. EU citizens and companies are also prohibited from providing them with funds and economic resources.
