CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Moscow this week to warn Russia against attacks on NATO countries and discuss Iran-related issues, CBS News reported, citing informed sources.
According to the TV channel, Ratcliffe also raised the topic of the conflict in Iran and warned of sanctions risks if shipping through the Strait of Hormuz does not resume.
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Ratcliffe's trip to Russia was "partly routine." At the same time, he did not rule out that the trip "could produce some results."
Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin noted on Thursday that the meeting with the CIA chief discussed issues within the competence of special services.
