Iran is continuing consultations with Qatari mediators on restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but an agreement has not yet been reached, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on November 1.

He said the outcome depends on the United States' answers to Tehran's questions. Iran's conditions for reopening the waterway remain unchanged. Its earlier demands included lifting the naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Speaking on the sidelines of a parliamentary national security and foreign policy committee meeting, Araghchi also said no direct meetings with US representatives had taken place or were planned. Contacts are being conducted through intermediaries.

Iran's original seven-day proposal is now being discussed on a shorter timetable. Following a Qatari suggestion, Tehran says it could implement the plan in two days if its conditions are accepted. That is a conditional implementation period, not an announced date for reopening the strait.
