CIA Director John Ratcliffe is in Moscow for meetings with Russian officials, sources told CBS News.
The information about the visit emerged after a U.S. Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III military transport aircraft and a convoy of American diplomats were spotted at one of Moscow's airports.
Neither Moscow nor Washington has yet commented on the identity of the American official in Russia or the purpose of the visit. The CIA has also declined to comment.
CBS News notes that this is reportedly Ratcliffe's first known visit to Russia since his appointment as CIA Director. The outlet also reports that Ratcliffe has maintained contacts with Russian intelligence chiefs.
