Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov held talks on August 28 with Nicholas Ho Lik-Chi, head of the Office of the Belt and Road Initiative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, during which the parties discussed the development of cooperation in transport and infrastructure.

One of the main topics of the meeting was attracting Hong Kong banks to finance the construction of the toll highway "Tashkent–Samarkand." Nicholas Ho Lik-Chi noted that this project is a priority for the Hong Kong side among the projects in the common portfolio.

In addition, the parties discussed the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in the fields of transport, freight transportation, and the implementation of infrastructure projects.

Special attention was paid to the agreements reached during the visit of the Uzbek delegation led by the Prime Minister to Hong Kong in May 2026. The meeting participants reviewed further steps to implement the reached agreements.

The parties also exchanged views on the prospects for signing an Intergovernmental Agreement on Air Services between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, including the possibility of launching direct regular flights.

Following the talks, the parties confirmed their interest in further expanding cooperation and agreed to continue work on promising transport and infrastructure projects.
