Operations at several major UK airports have been disrupted due to a technical failure in the air traffic control system, NBC News reports.
The issue affected departing flights at London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as airports in Manchester, Edinburgh, and others. Passengers were advised to check the status of their flights with their airlines.
Heathrow airport management said it was working with the UK's National Air Traffic Services (NATS) to resolve the issue.
Later, NATS stated that engineers had implemented a fix, and the flight processing system began to recover. However, the service warned that full restoration of operations would take some time.
Ryanair reported that around 65,000 passengers were affected by the failure, and 50 scheduled flights were canceled.
