Turkic states are aiming to reduce transit costs and cut expenses for freight carriers on the Middle Corridor. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Kubanychbek Omuraliev, at the II International Conference of Leading National Think Tanks of the OTS, held in Baku.
He stressed that the goals should not be limited solely to increasing trade volumes.
"We must make this trade faster, more efficient, digital, diversified and beneficial for businesses and communities in the region. In this regard, the 'Turkic World Vision 2040' represents an important roadmap. The document calls on us to deepen economic integration, improve connectivity, strengthen institutions, invest in knowledge-intensive industries and promote sustainable and inclusive growth," Omuraliev said.
According to him, a key priority of the OTS is connectivity, specifically transport and logistics.
"The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the 'Middle Corridor', can become one of the most important routes for sustainable economic cooperation between Turkic states. It is a strategic bridge between Asia and Europe, passing through the Turkic region and opening up new opportunities for trade, investment and economic development," Omuraliev said.
According to him, the success of the Middle Corridor depends not only on physical infrastructure.
"Ports, railways and roads, and logistics centres must be complemented by harmonised standards, efficient border procedures using artificial intelligence, coordinated tariffs and digital customs services. In this regard, the OTS is working on initiatives such as a simplified customs corridor, e-Permit, e-CMR and 'Digital Cargo'. These projects can reduce transit delays, lower costs and increase trust between traders and investors," the Secretary General noted.
