The command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is guaranteed only if they receive the appropriate permission from Iran, Mehr news agency reports.
"No vessel will be able to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian permission and oversight," an IRGC representative said.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under full American control.
"The U.S. fully controls the Strait of Hormuz. I think we will keep it! And Iran can't do anything about it," he wrote on Truth Social on August 12.
Iran's Strait of Hormuz Control Administration (PGSA) refuted the American leader's statement.
"Statements and repeated messages from U.S. officials that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer blocked do not change the reality: the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and will not be reopened until Iran's conditions are met," PGSA said in a statement on X.
In recent months, both the U.S. and Iran have periodically made statements claiming de facto control over the Strait of Hormuz.
