Iraqi authorities are in talks with the US administration on a partial resumption of air links with Iran, according to Al Hadath TV channel.
Citing its sources, the channel reported that Iraq has asked the United States to grant an exception allowing its national carrier Iraqi Airways to operate limited flights to Iran. As a compromise, Baghdad proposed that all flights from the Islamic Republic be received at only one airport — Al-Najaf.
Iraqi officials have not yet commented on Al Hadath's report.
On September 8, the United States added 35 airlines and other aviation-related companies operating in Iran to its sanctions list. On September 21, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that all Iranian airlines would have to stop flights abroad from September 23 due to Washington's sanctions, which also threaten Tehran's foreign partners.
