The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has urged American technology company Apple not to purchase memory chips from Chinese manufacturers.
As reported by FinFly.News citing The Wall Street Journal, the memory chip shortage is forcing Apple to consider purchasing components from Chinese companies.
"The Trump administration does not support this," said U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. According to him, there are other ways to solve the chip shortage problem besides American companies buying Chinese products.
Lutnick noted that this position has been communicated directly to Apple's leadership.
Earlier in August, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is testing chips from Chinese company CXMT for use in devices sold on the Chinese market, amid the memory chip shortage.
The company is also raising prices on its products worldwide, citing the rising cost of chips due to high demand from companies working in the field of artificial intelligence.
It is noted that using Chinese memory chips could help Apple reduce its shortage.
