Most U.S. citizens do not support the acceleration of data center construction for artificial intelligence, fearing rising electricity prices and overload of power grids.
According to a Fox News poll published in late July, seven out of ten American voters would not support the construction of an AI data center near their home.
Proponents of AI development in the U.S. administration consider this technology essential for the country's economic growth. However, further AI development will require large-scale data center construction, which causes discontent among part of the population.
U.S. President Donald Trump regularly tout the country's achievements in AI and actively advocates for building new data centers.
Bloomberg notes that in recent months, political strategists have warned administration officials about the risk of losing public support on this issue. The administration's stance has also led to disagreements with voters and could further weaken Republicans' positions ahead of the midterm congressional elections.
