Anthropic is in talks to acquire Israeli AI startup Decart AI for $6 billion, according to Bloomberg, citing informed sources.
Decart AI was founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers. The company develops interactive models for simulating the physical world, as well as software that can reduce the cost of training AI models by improving the efficiency of computing resources. This technology would help Anthropic's existing infrastructure handle higher loads.
Anthropic rarely makes large acquisitions but is actively increasing spending on computing power to develop new products and serve clients. The purchase of Decart AI, if completed, would be Anthropic's largest acquisition.
The interactive models developed by Decart AI are intended for business use in various fields, including autonomous driving and e-commerce. For example, its model Lucy AI can capture video of a person in real time and use it to generate another video where the user, for instance, tries on clothes. This task has long been a serious challenge for developers of online clothing retail technology.
Investor and client of Decart AI is the American e-commerce platform eBay Inc.
In May, Decart AI held an investment round of $300 million, valuing it at nearly $4 billion. Investors included Radical Ventures, Nvidia Corp., Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Adobe Ventures.
