The Tovuz District Court has awarded 7,000 manats in moral damages against an individual who spread insulting and defamatory information on social media.
The court heard a civil case concerning the protection of honour and dignity, the refutation of defamatory statements and the payment of compensation for moral harm.
According to case materials, the defendant used humiliating expressions against the plaintiff and members of his family in video materials published on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, and also brought issues of their personal lives up for public discussion.
The plaintiff initially sought 100,000 manats in moral damages.
The court noted that freedom of speech, as guaranteed by the Constitution, is not absolute. The dissemination of defamatory information and interference in private life in the digital space are unacceptable and entail legal liability.
The court also stressed that a person's public status does not mean that members of his family must tolerate interference in their private lives.
As a result, the claim was partially satisfied. The court recognised the defendant's statements as defamatory to the plaintiff's honour and dignity and ordered him to pay 7,000 manats in moral damages and 90 manats in state duty.
