Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi has called US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's statement that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will lose its significance in two years incorrect. The minister said this on Sunday at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York.
"I think it's completely wrong," al-Kaabi said.
According to him, the Strait of Hormuz is an important route not only for oil and gas trade but also for other goods, so it cannot lose its significance.
Earlier, Bessent said that in two years the strait would become a "useless waterway" as countries develop pipelines and other routes to bypass it.
Al-Kaabi also said that Qatar currently does not plan to build new pipelines to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the decision to use the strait was made taking into account commercial and technical factors.
