Iran is developing plans to maintain and increase production at the joint South Pars gas field (known as North Dome in Qatar). According to Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company, this was announced by company representative Ashkan Asadi Eskandar.

"In the South Pars gas field, a plan is being implemented to conduct three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) geomechanical studies. The results of these studies will allow us to manage the technical process of the reservoir, assess the causes of pressure decline in the reservoir, evaluate surface and downhole equipment, and will play an effective role in planning future production and field development programs," he said.

Asadi noted that this plan is considered one of the key studies in reservoir management of the South Pars field. As part of this plan, Iranian specialists have created a 3D and 4D geomechanical model over an area of 480 square kilometers of the field over 13 months, and its results will be presented as part of qualified analysis and technical reports.

The company representative said that unified reservoir management is considered one of the priorities of field operation. In this regard, this plan has been developed to forecast reservoir processes at South Pars and improve quality control.

Asadi added that the study results create conditions for a new phase of development aimed at maintaining production from wells. At the same time, the productive function of downhole and surface equipment will be assessed, and possible well damage will be identified.

The company representative stated that this research plan also creates conditions for assessing the development of geomechanical models for the entire Iranian part of the South Pars gas field. Forecasting the volume and distribution of subsidence in the study area, assessing the possibility of extending this model to the entire field, and improving technical knowledge on managing the mechanical behavior of the reservoir during operation and field abandonment are among the most important expected achievements of this project.
