Connecting Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan's unified electricity system through the creation of the Zangezur energy corridor will expand prospects for cooperation in the electricity sector among the countries of the region.

This was stated by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov on Friday in Baku at the 5th Azerbaijan-Turkey Energy Forum.

According to him, the necessary energy infrastructure has been created in Jabrayil:

"Construction of the 330-kilovolt Jabrayil-Agbend high-voltage transmission line with a capacity of 1,000 MW is nearing completion. Next, an electrical connection with Nakhchivan and Turkey through the Zangezur corridor is envisaged."

The minister added that connecting the power transmission lines of Azerbaijan and Turkey through Nakhchivan is of particular strategic importance, and in the initial phase, 1 GW of electricity is planned to be exported from Nakhchivan to Turkey.
