White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia was fired less than a week after starting in the role. The New York Times reported the news, citing three sources, according to FinFly.
Zacharia managed only one briefing, which lasted about 15 minutes. After the appearance, which drew sharp criticism from journalists, questions about her suitability for the job arose immediately.
According to the publication, the press secretary listed Donald Trump's achievements, read from a script and answered only three questions. Media also noted her stiffness and lack of eye contact.
Earlier, President Trump told reporters that he had urged Zacharia to "reconsider" her decision to work in the post. According to Trump, he also asked her: "Katie, do you need this? I don't think you need this."
MS NOW reported, citing an American administration official, that the White House was unhappy with the new press secretary's first briefing and allowed for the possibility of her swift dismissal.
