Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China. This was reported on September 6 by Russian leader's aide Yuri Ushakov.
He explained that the Russian side intends to plan bilateral contacts with participants of the event. In particular, a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping is being prepared.
"And also, if the opportunity arises, our leader will meet with the US President," Ushakov said.
The presidential aide added that each of the state leaders plans to arrive at the APEC summit. According to him, if Putin and Trump hold talks, the content of the dialogue will be determined by the duration of their meeting.
On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that a trilateral meeting involving the leaders of Russia, China, and the US is not ruled out. The diplomat noted that the idea is already being discussed, including in the public sphere. At the same time, he clarified that it is premature to talk about moving to the stage of direct preparation.
