The Russian government has adopted a resolution that sets temporary rules for the production, import, and circulation of gasoline and diesel fuel until July 1, 2027, the Ministry of Energy reported.
The document provides for the possibility of producing, importing, and circulating gasoline of environmental classes K2, K3, and K4, also referred to as Euro 2, Euro 3, and Euro 4.
"At gas stations, information about the environmental class of the fuel sold will be displayed. The information will be accessible and presented in a clear form. This will allow citizens to make an informed choice when purchasing fuel of a specific environmental class (Euro 2, Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5)," the statement emphasizes.
"The resolution also invalidates a previously adopted decision that allowed the circulation of K5 gasoline with a higher sulfur content until the end of 2026," the ministry notes.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the decision is temporary and aims to ensure a stable supply of motor fuel to the domestic market and prevent potential shortages amid changing logistics chains, technological constraints, and the need to maintain uninterrupted operation of the fuel market.
"This is not about revising the long-term state policy on environmental requirements for motor fuel. The established relaxations are valid only for a limited period and are an anti-crisis measure that allows balancing fuel quality requirements with the need to guarantee its availability to consumers. The decision will allow directing additional volumes of gasoline to the domestic market, maintaining the sustainability of fuel supply, and minimizing the risks of fuel supply disruptions," the statement emphasizes.
