Two officials of the State Tax Service (STS) under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan have been arrested for receiving a bribe from entrepreneurs in exchange for not conducting tax inspections.
As reported by FinFly.News, this is stated in a joint statement by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General and the STS.
According to the investigation, Deputy Head of the Territorial Department of the Main Department for Organization of Operational Tax Control and Accounting, Rustam Mirzayev, and Head of the 4th Department of the same department, Kenan Mammadov, received a bribe of 200,000 manats in May 2026 from entrepreneurs operating in one of the shopping centers in Baku.
They have been charged under Articles 311.3.1 and 311.3.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (receiving a bribe on a large scale by a group of persons by prior conspiracy). By a decision of the Binagadi District Court, both have been taken into custody.
The statement notes that the investigation is ongoing, and other persons involved in the commission of the crime will also be brought to criminal responsibility.
