Turkey has begun restoring the railway line leading to the Armenian city of Gyumri, according to the Armenpress news agency, citing Akyaka Mayor Erduger Toptash.
Toptash stated that the restoration work is planned to be completed within two to three months. He said a tender for construction work has already been announced. The project also includes the construction of a dirt road from Akyaka to Gyumri.
"The restoration of railway infrastructure will bring economic benefits to both countries and create opportunities for cooperation in agriculture and industry," Toptash noted.
Armenpress recalls that at the end of May, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the government would soon begin reconstruction of the Yeraskh and Gyumri-Akyaka railway sections.
