Kazakhstan and Iran have signed a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) agreement for the construction of a Kazakh transport and logistics terminal at the Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas. The document was signed by the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the Ports and Maritime Organization of Hormozgan Province.
From the Kazakh side, the agreement was signed by Aman Malgazhdarov, General Director of the QazExportPromotion Corporate Fund, and from the Iranian side by Hossein Abbas Nejad, head of the Shahid Rajaee Port.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kazakhstan receives a land plot in the port for the construction of the terminal. The BOT model provides for 2 years for construction and 25 years of operation — a total of 27 years. Commercial launch is scheduled for the third year of the project.
The ministry noted that the terminal will become a key element in the development of transport and logistics cooperation between the countries and will strengthen the transit potential of the North-South corridor. The new facility will allow Kazakhstan to expand its export geography and provide more efficient access for its products to the markets of the Persian Gulf countries, South and Southeast Asia, and East Africa.
