Chinese artificial intelligence developer DeepSeek has notified users of plans to significantly raise prices for its services. The company did not specify the extent of the increase, but called it substantial and urged customers to take it into account.
Currently, DeepSeek charges $0.14 per million input tokens and $0.28 per million output tokens. As Bloomberg notes, its Chinese competitor Moonshot prices its Kimi K3 at $3 and $15 per million tokens, while Anthropic's Fable 5 service is priced at $10 and $50, respectively.
DeepSeek has recently sparked active discussions about the cost of AI tools, as its V4 Flash model has proven competitive at a cost of just a few cents. As the agency reports, the company's low prices have led to proposals to create a "DeepSeek exclusion zone" that would exclude more expensive or less efficient models.
