Audi will present the new A2 e-tron electric car this autumn, which will become the spiritual successor to the hatchback produced from 1999 to 2005. The German brand's press service has published images of the model in camouflage and shared technical details. It is stated that the A2 e-tron will become the most economical production model in Audi's history and will take the place of an entry-level electric car.
According to preliminary measurements under the WLTP cycle, the A2 e-tron's energy consumption is 12.8 kWh per 100 km. The company notes that this result was achieved through a combination of calculated aerodynamics, a modernized powertrain, and an optimized battery. The A2 e-tron version with 190 hp and an optional efficiency package has a drag coefficient of 0.24, the best among the company's compact models.
The Audi A2 e-tron features a streamlined body with air channels in the front fenders, turbulence-reducing elements in the wheel arches, and an active cooling air intake that remains closed under normal conditions to reduce drag. The complex of aerodynamic refinements allows reducing energy consumption by up to 0.9 kWh per 100 km, which is especially important on the highway, since at speeds above 100 km/h, air resistance accounts for more than half of the vehicle's total energy consumption, the company said.
The electric car is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) traction battery with a capacity of 61 kWh, designed for regular charging up to 100%. Another feature of the model will be the possibility of bidirectional charging: the electric car can be used as a power source for external devices.
