Bilajari–Yalama: 192-km railway modernisation backed by ADB financing

On 16 October 2026 AZCON Holding reported that the Asian Development Bank allocated a US$350 million loan to install modern electrification, signalling and telecommunications systems along the 192-kilometre double-track railway line between Bilajari and Yalama. The line is described as a key link in the North–South and North-West international transport corridors. Upon completion the upgraded systems are to enable a transition from direct current to alternating current, with expected reductions in energy consumption and maintenance costs, higher train speeds and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The source gives no construction start or completion dates.
