The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has announced plans to introduce an electronic permit system (e-permit) for international freight road transport with Russia by the end of 2026.
"Uzbekistan is gradually expanding the e-permit system in the field of international road transport. Currently, work is underway to transition to electronic permit exchange with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, with plans to implement these systems by the end of 2026," the ministry stated.
The Ministry emphasized that the transition to the e-permit system is not a unilateral decision by Uzbekistan. It requires reaching relevant agreements between the competent authorities of the two states, mutual integration of information systems, testing of electronic data exchange mechanisms, and mutual recognition of electronic permits.
"Therefore, the fact that permits with the Russian Federation are still used in paper form does not mean that digitalization efforts in this direction are not underway," the ministry noted.
Currently, Uzbekistan exchanges electronic permits with seven countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
