Somon Air has received its second Boeing 737 MAX 8. The new aircraft is named after Abuabdullo Rudaki, the founder of classical Persian-Tajik literature.
The carrier received its first aircraft of this type on 27 July 2026. Initially, the new Boeing 737 MAX 8s are planned to be used on international routes Dushanbe–Seoul, Dushanbe–Beijing, Dushanbe–Minsk and Dushanbe–London. Later, the airline intends to deploy them on other routes as well.
Somon Air has been operating in the international market since 2008, with its first flight performed in February 2008 on the Dushanbe–Moscow route. The carrier is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to the airline, in the first nine months of 2025, Somon Air carried about 826,000 passengers — 11% more than in the same period of 2024. During this period, 2,477 flights were operated, 89% of which were on international routes; at that time, the carrier operated scheduled flights to 25 destinations.
The route network currently includes destinations in Germany, the UAE, Turkey, China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The addition of the Boeing 737-8 to the fleet is part of plans to expand the route network: the airline has noted that aircraft of this type should become the backbone of its fleet for short- and medium-haul routes. In 2025, Somon Air announced plans to receive new Boeing 737 MAX 8s in 2026 to launch additional routes, including to London, Riyadh, Beijing, Guangzhou and Seoul.
