Kazakhstan is exploring the possibility of using Montenegro's Bar port to expand freight traffic to the Western Balkans and Central Europe, Kazinform reports, citing the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Montenegro, Daulet Batrashev, visited the seaport of Bar and held meetings with Aleksandar Slabidjorevski, executive director of Luka Bar A.D., and Nikola Jovanović, head of the Budva municipality. The parties examined the prospects for using Montenegro's transport and logistics infrastructure to develop freight traffic between Kazakhstan, the Western Balkans and European markets.
The diplomat briefed the officials on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (the Middle Corridor) and noted Kazakhstan's interest in diversifying and expanding the geography of international routes. In this context, the port of Bar was considered as one of the possible regional logistics hubs for transshipment and further distribution of Kazakh cargo.
Particular attention was paid to the prospects for transporting Kazakh agricultural and food products, including grain, as well as to the development of container and other types of freight traffic. The parties discussed potential formats for interaction between Kazakh companies and the port of Bar, including the use of terminal and warehouse infrastructure, joint logistics projects and opportunities for investment cooperation. The interlocutors agreed to continue working contacts and to substantively elaborate possible projects, taking into account their economic efficiency.
At the meeting with Nikola Jovanović, interregional cooperation, tourism exchanges and direct contacts between business circles were discussed. Batrashev said Kazakhstan was ready to open an Honorary Consulate in Budva. The meetings were a continuation of agreements reached following talks between the heads of state of Kazakhstan and Montenegro in June 2026.
