The first example of Ferrari's fully electric car, the Luce, has been sold at a Sotheby's auction in Monterey, USA, for a record $40 million.
The car, designated as "Chassis 0," is the first production example of the Ferrari Luce model. It features a special commemorative plaque, and Ferrari will donate the proceeds from its sale to charity.
According to Bloomberg, the sold example set a record as the most expensive new car ever sold at auction.
It is worth noting that Ferrari's first electric car was presented on May 26. After the presentation, the company's shares fell by more than 8%, equivalent to about €5 billion.
It is noted that former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, who also led the company's Formula 1 team, had previously stated that the release of such a car could threaten the legendary image of the brand. He also expressed hope that the Ferrari emblem with the prancing horse would be removed from the electric car.
