Chinese company Sea Legend will start regular container shipping between China and Europe via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) this week, as reported by the Financial Times (FT) on August 10.
The route between the Chinese port of Ningbo-Zhoushan and the British port of Felixstowe will cut delivery time to 20 days, roughly twice as fast as previous shipping times.
Rahul Khanna, head of marine risk consulting at insurer Allianz, noted the growth of shipping through the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route. He said that using this route allows companies to reduce time and financial costs, as well as avoid passing through geopolitically complex regions and conflict zones.
