Baku Metro has temporarily suspended train service between the '28 May' and 'Nizami' stations starting today, as part of the line separation project.
According to the press service of Bakmetro, the main stage of construction work has begun within the framework of the project to separate the 'Red' and 'Green' lines. The construction work is expected to last about 10–11 months.
The project is being implemented in accordance with the 'State Program on Improving the Transport Infrastructure of the City of Baku and Adjacent Territories for 2025–2030', approved by the order of President Ilham Aliyev.
The main goal of the project, which is a strategic necessity for the further development of the Baku Metro, is to eliminate the interdependence of the 'Red' and 'Green' lines, reduce station congestion, minimize intervals between trains, and ensure stability of service.
Currently, thousands of passengers traveling in different directions use a single platform at the '28 May' station, which, especially during peak hours, leads to excessive congestion and creates serious difficulties when boarding and alighting from trains. After the project is completed, passengers heading towards 'Icherisheher' will use the platform of the '28 May' station, and those heading towards 'Darnagul' will use the platform of the 'Jafar Jabbarly' station. In addition, the second passenger staircase connecting the '28 May' and 'Jafar Jabbarly' stations, the construction of which is nearing completion, will provide a more convenient and faster transfer between the stations.
As an additional measure, six new express routes organized by AYNA have been launched since August 14.
New express routes:
- M1: 'Elmlar Akademiyasy' – '28 May'
- M2: 'Inshaatchylar' – 'Nizami' – '28 May'
- M3: '20 January' – 'Nizami' – '28 May'
- M4: '20 January' – 'Koroglu'
- M5: '20 January' – 'Ganjlik'
- M6: 'Elmlar Akademiyasy' – 'Ganjlik'
The number of buses on 20 regular routes (No. 2, 6, 7A, 9, 10, 14, 17, 18, 26, 61, 65, 79, 85, 88, 88A, 93, 133, 165, 199, and 202) will also be increased.
Since August 13, the terminal stops of regular routes No. 32, 49, 120E, and 125, which go to the '28 May' transport center, have also been changed. Their terminal stops are now organized near the Samad Vurgun garden. Thus, the terminal stop for routes No. 32 and 49 is set on Dilyara Aliyeva Street, and for routes No. 120E and 125 – on Pushkin Street.
