Since the launch of the car scrappage program in Azerbaijan, 36,728 vehicles have been taken out of circulation, including 18,852 in January-August of this year. This was reported by OJSC "Təmiz Şəhər" (Clean City).
Under the state program, 1,991 new locally produced cars have been sold on preferential terms to date. In addition, more than 1 million manats have been transferred to applicants' bank accounts as one-time payments.
Lada (VAZ) cars account for 56% of all scrapped vehicles. GAZ accounts for 9%, Mercedes-Benz 6%, Opel 3%, and Daewoo 2%.
Every year, a large number of cars operated in Azerbaijan become unusable due to wear and tear and road accidents. According to statistics, currently every fifth car in the country does not meet environmental requirements and safety standards.
To simplify the procedure for handing over vehicles for scrapping, an electronic portal has been launched. After handing over the car to the operator, the owner receives a confirmation document, on the basis of which they can receive a one-time payment or a discount on the purchase of a new locally produced vehicle.
Handing over cars for scrapping is exclusively voluntary and not mandatory.
