Transport is one of the main areas of cooperation between Central Asia and Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said, speaking at the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Azerbaijan and Central Asia in the city of Turkmenbashi.

"The Caspian Sea today plays an increasingly large role in the transport interaction of our countries. Transport infrastructure on both shores of the Caspian is important for connecting Central Asia with Azerbaijan and, further, with international markets," the head of state emphasized.

The president noted that there is currently significant growth in the volume of cargo traffic across the Caspian.

"Our common task is to make these routes more efficient and competitive," the head of state added.

Aliyev emphasized that the Middle Corridor is acquiring increasing importance. "Last year, the volume of transit traffic along this route grew by more than 10%, and in the first 8 months of this year by almost another 20%," the President of Azerbaijan noted.
