Sole trader or company: the difference
An individual entrepreneur (fərdi sahibkar) is the simplest start: fewer formalities and lighter reporting, good for services and small turnover. A legal entity (an LLC, for example) is more involved but better for partnerships, investment and large counterparties. It depends on your scale and plans.
Step 1. Registration
Registering an individual entrepreneur and many companies is available online through the State Tax Service and e-government services. You need an ID and basic details about your activity.
Step 2. Tax setup and regime
After registration you must register for tax and pick the applicable regime. The regime drives your rate, reporting and mandatory contributions — check current conditions on taxes.gov.az.
Step 3. Account, till and documents
You open a bank account for client payments; depending on your activity you may need an online till, licences or permits. Confirm the requirements for your specific business.
Plan ahead
Estimate expected turnover, whether you will hire, whether you will work with companies and whether licences apply. This shapes the form and regime you choose — and saves re-registration later.
