UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed concern on Monday that artificial intelligence (AI) could pose a threat to humanity.
"The development of AI could represent a risk to the existence of humanity," he said at the opening of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
According to him, in today's world, "virtually unlimited power over AI" is concentrated in the hands of just a few people.
Türk called for "full-scale efforts to ensure the safety of AI before it is too late." He believes that countries with AI technologies and those involved in the supply chain should agree on "red lines" in the field of AI.
