American company OpenAI is hurrying to hold an investment round in which its total valuation could exceed $1.4 trillion. According to Reuters, citing sources, it plans to do so before the expected mid-November IPO of rival Anthropic.
According to the agency's interlocutors, the unusually tight timeline is partly explained by the desire to get ahead of Anthropic in the competition for investor funds. In addition, OpenAI wants to take advantage of a recent revenue increase after the launch of new models.
The developer of ChatGPT expects to raise about $30 billion and is in talks with existing investors, including Japan's SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi's MGX, one source said.
OpenAI needs the capital to finance infrastructure costs and strengthen its financial position in case the IPO planned for next year has to be postponed due to deteriorating market conditions, investors familiar with the company noted.
OpenAI's previous investment round took place in March. It raised a record $122 billion, with a total valuation of $852 billion.
