Technology giant Nvidia has struck a deal with AI startup Poolside for $6 billion to build a powerful artificial intelligence model. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this on August 22, citing sources.
According to the publication, the goal of the agreement is to develop technologies capable of competing with Chinese models DeepSeek and Kimi K3. For $6 billion, Nvidia will gain the right to use Poolside's developments and hire most of the startup's engineers.
Poolside's founders have already notified shareholders of a significant reorganization of the company. According to them, the collaboration with Nvidia is intended to prevent monopolization of the industry.
"The deal with Nvidia is intended to prevent artificial intelligence from becoming a closed technology controlled by a small number of people in the future," the startup's management said.
