Hotels in 70 Russian regions have begun offering a fast check-in service via the Max messenger. The press service of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development reported this on Friday.
"Residents and guests of more than half of Russia's regions can check into a hotel without a paper passport, using a 'Digital ID' on their smartphone. The new technology, implemented under the national project 'Tourism and Hospitality', operates in more than 800 hotels located in about 70 constituent entities of the country. Among the leaders in the number of hotels using Digital ID for registration are the Republic of Tatarstan, Pskov, Ulyanovsk, Kirov, and Novgorod oblasts, as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg," the statement said.
As the ministry reminds, to use the service, a Russian citizen must first create a Digital ID in the Max messenger - for this, they need to add their documents via the 'Gosuslugi' portal, which will automatically redirect the user for verification. Upon check-in, the guest will be offered to open the 'Digital ID' section in the messenger, go to the 'Passport' tab, and press the 'Present' button. A hotel employee scans the QR code from the smartphone screen, and the passport data is automatically loaded into the hotel's system, eliminating the risk of errors during manual entry and saving time.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Dmitry Vakhruskov noted that the technology is receiving positive feedback from both businesses and tourists.
"Further synchronization of information systems and staff training remain priority tasks for the coming months," the ministry's press service quotes him as saying.
